Welcome to my Teaching Portfolio!

Below, you will find examples for both my English and Theater backgrounds. They are organized by subject in a myriad of mediums and genres of my work, from essays to poems, websites to videos and art. I hope that my passion for both of these subjects is evident in my work.

I believe that for a teacher of any subject the role is that of a facilitator and guide, not only for the material outlined in the curriculum, but for learning for life. The humanities in particular are a uniquely positioned for students to consider new perspectives of people who come from many different walks of life, opening the door to empathy and critical thought, as well as subjective debate and discussion. I would like for my students to understand how to critically analyze texts and performances through many different lenses, and I believe the best way to do so is through a discussion based social constructivist forum where they can learn from and interact with their peers in a safe environment.

This is a culminative project for my Literature circles in which the students must design a Netflix page and conceptualize a mini-series based on their Lit Circle novel, as well as film a short trailer for their book. My examples (attached) are about The Great Gatsby, but their projects are much more varied.

English

This is the instructional set for my Literature Circles. The attached slide deck includes each individual role and all associated examples of what each role entails. The unit takes roughly five weeks to finish each book and then an additional two for their Netflix project and essay.

An example of a poetry project for Transcendentalism. This is a culminating project for my Transcendentalism unit that I like to incorporate before their final essay of the semester in American Literature.

I have included one of my slide decks for my 1984 unit which includes many of my lead up activities as well as some I do throughout should they seem helpful for my class at the time. Much of this has been adapted from my ERWC class as well.

While not an English assignment, this is an example of a week in the life of one one my AVID students, which I have had the privilege to teach for the past two years- grades 9-12. These slides are for my Freshmen and Sophomores that I worked with for the 2022-23 school year.

This is an example of a Unit plan on Romeo and Juliet I used for my Freshmen during my Student teaching at Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, CA. I had the unique challenge of modifying many of these assignments for distance learning between acts 2 and 3.
