Teaching is lighting a candle. You light the fire in your students, and trust that the flame will carry them through life. The flame you give them will light the darkness of what they don't understand yet, helping them to better see and  figure out the world around them. In time, the hope is that they will pass that flame on to others, and the world will be a little brighter. When you first light a candle, it is your job to ensure that it stays strong and bright, and doesn't go out. So, too, is your role as a teacher, nurturing the love of learning in your students. The flame has long been a metaphor for knowledge, passion, and humanity, all of which I hope to pass along to my students.
